SIERRA VISTA — The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality announced Wednesday that two waterways in Arizona have been removed from its list of water bodies compromised by E. coli.

The delisted waterways are part of Fossil Creek and the San Pedro River, bringing the total number of delisted waterways in Arizona to eight by 2022.

However, waterways in two areas of Greenlee County remain listed as being compromised by high levels of E. coli.

E. coli levels continue to decline in the Blue River from Strayhorse Creek to the San Francisco River and the San Francisco River from the Blue River to Limestone Gulch.

But thanks to the work of the Gila Watershed Partnership, local ranchers, and other volunteers, the San Francisco River from the New Mexico border to the Blue River is considered by the Environmental Protection Agency to be in good shape.
