SAFFORD — Thanks to the Sheriff’s Office, Graham County receives a large amount of state grants.
On Monday, the Graham County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to accept a $3.1 million grant from the Arizona Department of Emergency Military Affairs to fund numerous purchases and system upgrades, including the implementation of a digital communications system. Approved by consensus.
“So this benefits all agencies, fire departments, not just Lifeline,” said Deputy Sheriff Jeff McCormie. “They will have the opportunity to communicate better with us and with them.”
The Sheriff’s Office plans to use a portion of the funds for license plate readers. “This is not a photo radar,” says McCormie. — This is useful when trying to find a specific vehicle, such as for Amber and Silver alerts. And the sheriff’s office buys a new car.
“A lot of that was planned to be done with other money, so that’s great,” said supervisor Danny Smith. “The license plate problem is leaving the county line and it’s like ruining half of every country he song that talks about crossing the county line.”
