- First Apollo Drilling Program Identifies Strong Gold-bearing Orogenic Belt Similar to Bypass Lake Mine Along Sunday Lake Fault
- Excavation hit wide gold intervals covering an interpreted 3 km strike length
- Hole AP-22-07 is 10 meters wide between 300 and 550 m deep, including 46.9 m for 0.33 g/t Au, 11.27 m for 0.46 g/t Au and 20.48 m for 0.23 g/t Au. Crossed over four gold-bearing structures.and 14.0 m at 0.37 g/t Au with mineralization at the edge of the hole
- All structures remain open along strike and depth, with the property of hosting intrusive stocks of abundant embankment and alkaline composition
Montreal, QC / Accesswire / April 4, 2023 / Tarku Resources Ltd (TSXV:TKU)(FRA:7TK)(OTCQB:TRKUF) (“Company” or “Talc”) is pleased to confirm the presence of a strong gold-bearing orogenic belt identified over a 3 km strike length during the 2022 drilling campaign at the Apollo Project. One of 217 total claims covering approximately 130 square kilometers, Apollo is wholly owned by Talc and spans 20 km of the Sunday Lake Fault, host of the Bypass Lake Mine.
Tarku Resources President and CEO Julien Davy said: “This first Apollo drilling program has been a real success. The existence of an orogenic system could be confirmed: Discovery AP-22-07’s holes were drilled at the edge of a magnetic anticyclone and intersected by four key structures, each over 10 meters wide. Zones associated with syenite intrusions are characteristic of the type of deposit that talc is looking for. We confirm that possibility both in strike and at depth. Our next drilling program will also focus on confirming the continuity of the gold-bearing structures identified so far.”
Apollo program’s first drilling program
In December 2022, Tarku conducted the first drilling program for the Apollo project. The program drilled 3,048 m in eight holes in a 4 km wide priority area along the Sunday Lake deformation zone, where no gold prospecting had been previously reported. The zones of interest corresponded to magnetic and induced polarization anomalies between the surface and 577 m depth. Visual inspection of the core reveals intensive hydrothermal alteration in a style resembling orogenic gold deposits and magmatic alterations such as hematization, carbonization and sericitization.
The results (Table 1) reveal several sections over 10 m of anomalous gold-bearing rocks associated with extensive silicification and/or very finely dispersed cubic pyrite within the quartz stockwork system.

An orogenic gold deposit model similar to the Detour Lake mine
The regional Riviere Waswanipi Shear Zone is the eastern extension of the Sunday Lake Fault that hosts the Detour Lake gold mine of over 20 million ounces and the Lake Kirkland mining camp, which produced over 50 million ounces of gold. Similar to the Sunday Lake Fault, the Riviere Waswanipi shear zone is characterized by the presence of alkaline rocks, polygenic conglomerates (Timiscumming type), and porphyry intrusions with anomalous gold values of several hundred ppb (GM 52712). can be attached.
The 3As project was acquired by Tarku in 2016 after a vacant lot was set aside based on detailed data compilation work in the area. The process also took into account Matagami’s historic zinc mining area (4.6 million tons of zinc and 4.94 million tons of copper from 1960 to 2004) and, in particular, the potential for overlooked gold mineralization.
After Talc acquired the property, it implemented a till sampling program. Given a gold background of 93% with values between 0.25 g/t and 0.35 g/t Au, statistical analysis revealed three distinct populations within the gold assay results. Several mineralogical features were also found as geochemical features of the gold-bearing belts correlated with Te (0.86), Ag (0.80) and Mo (0.76).
Along the same regional structure, other prospectors such as Maple Gold, Balmoral and Midland Exploration have returned exciting drill results, demonstrating the region’s strong gold potential.
Drilling sampling method and QA/QC
Diamond drilling was performed by Forages Rouillier of Amos, Quebec. All his NQ-sized cores are recovered by drillers, sent to the Matagami Core Shack, and recorded by geologists. Samples typically vary from 0.5 m to 1.5 m depending on the geological setting. Sample preparation is done by Service MNG, where the drill core is cut in half, half used for chemical analysis and the other half for control purposes.
All samples are sent to Act Labs laboratories in Val d’Or, Quebec for analysis. Each sample is dried and ground to 80% passing -2 mm (10 mesh), 300 g is taken and ground to 85% passing 75 microns (200 mesh). Gold analysis (TMT-G5B method) is performed by fire assay on 50 g samples with atomic absorption finishing. Samples exceeding the detection limit of 3,000 ppb are re-analyzed by the Gravimetric Finishing Fire His assay. The samples are then subjected to tetraacid digestion and analyzed by ICP-MS for 60 elements including silver (Ag), copper (Cu), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn).
Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) includes use of duplicates representing one quarter (1/4) of the drill core, blank samples, and use of materials certified for Au, Ag, and Cu. will be Adding QA/QC to the sample stream adds 10% of the samples analyzed in total.
A total of 2,178 samples were taken and analyzed for gold, 60 elements and 14 samples for rock geochemistry.
