At its March 27 meeting, the Miami City Council approved an intergovernmental agreement with Gila County regarding the 2023 Summer Work Program. Funded from individual supervisors’ budgets, the program makes temporary jobs available to local youth. This year we are recruiting for the following positions: Public Works – 2. Senior Center – 1; and Town Hall – 1.
The Council also approved Resolution 1285, approving a five-year renewal of the Township’s membership in the Rural Arizona Group Health Trust. This provides health, dental and life insurance to town employees. Miami has been a member of the group since around 2006.
The town of Miami has already started a branding project (logo design) with Local First Arizona. In October, the Board heard a progress report. Some members were not satisfied with the draft example, but the council instructed staff to move forward. Local First Arizona Rural Development Director Jenna Rowell and Local First Arizona Rural Program Manager – Community Development Victoria Grijalva Ochoa presented the final logo.CebuLal Council members proposed changes and were informed that they could charge the town up to $1,200 at this point, depending on the changes.
The lack of communication during the early design stages frustrated many at meetings. Alderman Michael Sosh said three aldermen had volunteered and had not been contacted after the first meeting. Town manager Alexis Rivera noted that this happened under the previous town manager.
The board decided to approve the logo conditionally. Local First Arizona representatives were instructed to examine the costs of the proposed changes.
The Council also directed staff to proceed with the investment of funds received from BHP for the Bechtel Tract Sewerage Project.
Rivera reported that Miami is proceeding with conversations with two engineering consultants on wastewater plant design and upgrade recommendations.
The council has decided to designate April 2023 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Miami.
