Orange Grove Interchange to close until 2024

The Orange Grove Road interchange on Interstate 10 will close on Wednesday as crews begin rebuilding and widening the road from Raslauf to Ina Road.

Starting at 5 a.m., all exit and exit ramps on Interstate 10 will be closed except for the westbound off-ramp, according to a news release from the Arizona Department of Transportation. The closure will last until late 2024.

The closure is due to the $171 million ADOT project. The project is to improve safety and traffic flow by adding his fourth lane in each direction on a 4-mile section of I-10 and adding lanes to the exit and entrance ramps. is intended for The Orange Grove and Sunset Road interchanges, according to a news release.

When the project is completed in late 2025, I-10 will carry four lanes of traffic from 22nd Street to Ina Road.

The project will also rebuild the Sunset Road Interchange, so a new bridge will span I-10. At the same time, a Pima County-funded project will extend Sunset Road east to River Road and build a new bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and the Lilito River.

While the crew works on the project, the Sunset Road Interchange will be closed this spring until the project is completed.

Other major improvements in the project, according to the news release:

Rebuild Orange Grove Road interchange to allow for higher clearance.

Canada Del Oro Wash and Lilito River bridge replaced.

Construct an access path from Sunset Road to the Chuck Huckleberry Loop.

We work on lighting, landscaping and drainage.

For the majority of the project, traffic will be diverted to I-10 service roads. ADOT said he would minimize the impact on traffic by keeping three lanes of traffic open during peak hours and restricting lanes only at night.

While the Orange Grove and Sunset Road interchanges are closed, ADOT is advising drivers to use Ruslauf Road and Ina Road as alternative routes.
