Thatcher — The Graham County Chamber of Commerce soiree in April was less about the business mix and more about sharing information from area service organizations.
Representatives from the Graham County Health Department, the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, the EAC’s Small Business Development Center, the Ocotillo Collective, the Eastern Arizona Historical Society and Museum, the Safford Downtown Association, and the Great Community Resource Center are present at a variety of current events. and shared updates about the project. in progress.
The soirée was hosted by Eastern Arizona College on Thursday, April 6th at the Hoops Activity Center.
A highlight of the evening was to honor Americorps Vista volunteer Clare Santas, who is working with United Way and the Department of Health to find solutions to food and mental health needs in the Gila Valley.
“From the beginning, she was given some difficult tasks, but she never hesitated or backed down.
Graham County Supervisor Paul David gifted Santa with a book, “Hellraisers and Trailblazers, the Real Women of the Wild West,” to take with him as he travels to his new home in Minneapolis.
Because of the work Santa did, she agreed to an additional three-month contract to work remotely for the health department.
“She has made our community better, but she has also made us better,” said Rosa Contreras from the Ministry of Health.
The Chamber of Commerce hosts a soirée for Chamber members on the first Thursday of each month.
