TUCSON (KVOA) – One man was incarcerated in the Pima County Jail while another was taken to hospital in a road rage case.
All this happened just four days ago.
A detective with the Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Investigation Division told News 4 Tucson that they have investigated more road rage cases than ever before.
“In the past six months, there have been five to six road rage incidents, more than usual involving weapons and shootings,” said Adam Schoonover, deputy director of the Public Intelligence Service.
Last Thursday, detectives said they arrested 23-year-old Justin Harris. He was cornering another driver and shot the driver. Harris is being held in the Pima County Jail and charged with drive-by shooting and aggravated assault.
Started with La Chora and River Road. Investigators said Harris followed the driver to Oracle Road, shot through the passenger door, and struck the victim in the knee.
The victim was taken to hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Tim Eastep has seen many aggressive drivers driving from Miami, Arizona to Tucson and back.
“Some people think you’re driving too slowly, so they get too close or overtake you in a no-passing zone.”
He said, “I don’t want to try to retaliate and end up worse… you never know what will happen and what you’re thinking or doing if that person is mad at you. I don’t know.”
Another driver, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “I think it’s increasing all the time. I still hear it a lot. It’s really scary and something needs to be done.”
The Sheriff’s Department recommends that you stay away from aggressive drivers, call 911, or if you can drive to the nearest police station, do so.
