Border Health Regional Center receives immigrants released from Yuma CBP custody
Yuma, AZ (KECY, KYMA) – At the U.S. Senate Homeland Security Conference, Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) said FEMA had denied a request for reimbursement from the Border Health Regional Center.
“Denying funding to Yuma’s Border Health Regional Center means literally everyone in Yuma County receives zero support,” Cinema said.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorcas said he was not familiar with FEMA’s refusal of reimbursement funds.
“I promise to look into it with you,” Mallorcas said.
The Border Health Regional Center receives all immigrants released from local CBP custody who are permitted to remain in the United States while their asylum applications are being processed.
They had previously told KYMA that FEMA would reimburse some of the costs, but did not disclose the amount.
We have reached out to RCBH about Senator Cinema’s remarks, but have yet to receive a response.
