A trio of elementary and middle school gymnasts represented Flagstaff this spring, performing at high levels in state and regional competitions.

Troy Miller, Charlie Wesche and Roston Dubravic, all training at the Flagstaff Gymnastics Center, competed at the US Gymnastics Men’s State Championships in Tucson in early March. Three boys, he occupied three of the top four spots in the tournament, which ended March 5th.

Wesche finished 4th in the all-around competition and 1st in the ring event. Dubravcic placed him 3rd overall, 2nd on the vault and 3rd on the floor. And the highlight was the mirror, all round he was 1st in the contest, 2nd in the pommel horse, 2nd in the high bar and 3rd in the floor.

“I’m really happy that I won the prefectural tournament. Being able to make a state team with my teammates is a dream come true,” Miller said.

The performance qualified Miller and Wesche at the US Regional Gymnastics Championships in Reno, Nevada, March 29-April 2. Flagstaff gymnasts were also winning competition from California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii. Miller placed him 4th in the regional all-around competition, 1st in the vault, and Wesche placed him 9th overall.

“It was really cool to have everyone in the state tournament together. We worked really hard,” said Miller.

Shauna Miller, who owns and runs the Flagstaff Gymnastics Center, was the only woman to coach the men at the competition.

She said the boys’ success throughout the season is a testament to Flagstaff’s gymnastics community.

“Even coming from such a small town, it shows what you can do if you put in the effort,” she said.

The season is over and athletes at the Flagstaff Gymnastics Center are training in the off-season to ensure they are in top shape when competition resumes this winter.
