Jobless claims fall in Greenlee, Graham

PHOENIX — For the 16th straight month, Greenlee County has the lowest unemployment rate in the state.

That’s according to data released Thursday by the Arizona Department of Commerce.

Greenlee County unemployment claims fell 0.2 percentage points in March to 2.1%. This is the same unemployment rate as in March 2022.

Meanwhile, Graham County’s unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage points to 3% in March, the third-lowest unemployment rate in the state.

Graham County’s current unemployment rate is seven-tenths of a percentage point higher than it was at the same time last year.

Maricopa County has the second lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.9%. Nearby Cochise County saw him drop 0.1 points to 4% in March.

Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell 0.2 percentage points to 3.5% in March, also 0.1 percentage points lower than the same period last year. National interest rates fell by a tenth of a percentage point to 3.5%.

Four economic sectors reported an increase in employment in March. Construction (+1,500); Leisure and Hospitality (+1,100). and government (500 more).

Reported job losses include: Professional and Business Services (down 4,100). Finance activity (3,400 jobs lost). Trade, Transportation and Utilities (down 2,100). and information (down 400 jobs).

Natural resources and mining did not show a net change in employment in March.
