YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma Police Department (YPD) hosted National Drug Take Duck Day on Saturday.
The incident took place at the Yuma Police Department from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
This is a nationwide event sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that allows anyone with expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs to deliver.
However, YPD only accepted tablets and over-the-counter drugs such as Tylenol and Advil, not needles, illicit drugs, or liquid drugs.
The event is also a way for the community to do their part to get them off the streets.
“We understand that there are some challenges going on on TikTok and we want to make sure parents are aware that such things are happening. With Benadryl, With TikTok, all Motrin; all prescription drugs, even oxycodone and pain relievers.
In addition to the YPD, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office and the San Luis Police Department (SLPD) also attended the event. After all agencies across the country collect the drugs, they store them in crates and the DEA comes and collects them, Fernandez said.
If you can’t make it to Saturday’s event, Fernandez says he plans to hold another drug take-back day in October, with 24/7 collection boxes at the station.
