phoenix – Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes visited elections and other local officials in The Grove and Tucson last week as part of a tour of all 15 Arizona counties in his first few months in office.
Secretary Fontes met with Pima County Recorder Gabriela Caseres Kelly last week with officials and a bipartisan volunteer group.
During her visit to Grove, Gila County, Commissioner Fontes will meet with reporter Sadie Jo Bingham, elections officer Eric Mariscal, Grove Mayor Al Gameros, and staff to address their needs and help prepare the county. Discussed the Secretary’s efforts to provide training, guidance, and technical support for for the 2024 election.
In Tucson, Secretary Fontes met with Pima County election officials, including reporter Gabriela Cazares-Kelly and elections administrator Constance Hargrove. He also met with Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, City Clerk Suzanne Messick, 4th Ward City Councilman Nicky Lee, and staff.
“As a former county registrar, I bring to the work of the Secretary of State a deep understanding and appreciation for effective local government and the hardworking people who make it happen,” said Secretary Fontes. Our message to local authorities in counties, cities and towns is simple: My office has your back: prepare the people of Arizona for the 2024 election and give voice to every eligible voter. When it comes to the task of making sure the sound is heard, we are all in it together.”
In Grove, Gila County, Secretary Fontes discussed preparations for the 2024 election with reporter Sadie Jo Bingham, elections officer Eric Mariscal, Grove Mayor Gameros, and other local officials.
Secretary Fontes recently visited the county as budget negotiations with the state legislature continue. For the upcoming fiscal year, the Office of the Secretary of State will: We requested additional funds in a timely and reasonable manner. Educate voters about the unique rules governing next year’s presidential election.
In addition to serving as the state’s chief elections administrator, Secretary Fontes also heads the Arizona State Library, Archives and Archives, which provides resources and funds libraries in all 15 counties.
Last week, Secretary Fontes toured the Grove Public Library with Gila County Librarian Librarian Elaine Votorba and Grove Public Directorate Rayel Sterling. Secretary Fontes then met with Librarian Amber Mathewson and staff at the Joel D. Valdes Library in Tucson to discuss initiatives and programs to expand access to print and digital materials throughout Pima County.
In the coming weeks, Secretary Fontes is planning trips to Coconino, La Paz, Yuma, Santa Cruz, and Apache County.
While in Pima County, Secretary Fontes met with Tucson Mayor Regina Romero.
