Leaving the City of Sedona, Joanne Keene hired as Flagstaff deputy city manager

After more than a year-long search, the City of Flagstaff has announced that Joan Keane will fill the position of deputy mayor.

Mayor Greg Clifton announced at the Flagstaff City Council on Tuesday that Keen will join the city. Keen, a veteran of numerous local governments and agencies, will take office on May 30.

“I am thrilled to join the City of Flagstaff’s dedicated team as the new Deputy Mayor,” Keane said in a statement. increase.”

Keane currently serves as Deputy Mayor of the City of Sedona.

Keen was one of 175 potential candidates considered by the City of Flagstaff, 11 of whom were invited for preliminary interviews. Two of his 11 were invited to an interview event held earlier this month, where the public was able to ask questions of the candidates and provide feedback to the city.

Another candidate chose to take another job offer.

Keane joins Clifton and senior deputy mayor Shannon Anderson on the city’s executive leadership team.

While currently serving in the City of Sedona, Keen also served as Vice President of Coconino County and Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff for Northern Arizona University.

During his time in the public sector, Keane has also served as both the Director of State Relations and the Arizona Department of Water Resources, as well as a staff member of the United States House of Representatives.

Keane will fill the role of Flagstaff’s Deputy City Manager, a position vacated by Shane Dill in February 2022. At that time, Dil left the city and took the position of town manager of Sahuarita.

A year and a half after Dill left, Heidi Hansen, the city’s economic vitality manager, assumed the position of deputy manager.

Keen and her husband have lived in Flagstaff for nearly 20 years. A graduate of Northern Arizona University, Keane holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in English and broadcast journalism. She is also a Certified Public Her Manager at Arizona State University.
