Sylvia Marie (Skorepa) Konecny, 96, was born April 2, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to (Alzbeta) Betty and (Karel) Charles Skorepa and died April 24, 2023 at her home in Prescott, Arizona. rice field.
He spent his childhood in Chicago and graduated from Farragut High School. During her high school years, she was very active in the Czech gymnastics organization, Sokol. After her high school graduation, she worked as a switchboard operator at her Bell Telephone Company in Illinois.
While in high school, she attended a Sokol picnic where another Sokol member introduced her to the love of her life, future husband Jim. The gentleman who introduced them noticed a young soldier on war leave who glanced at Sylvia. He knew the young lady and thought so highly of her that he asked if he would like an introduction to her gym. Of course, Jim immediately said yes. And the man who introduced them? That man was Jim’s dad, so he became Sylvia’s father-in-law!
Sylvia and Jim kept in touch during the war years and were married in 1946 when Jim returned home from the Philippines. They were active in the Northern Illinois Earth Science Club until her 1974 move to Prescott. Sylvia was active in her camera club in Prescott. Prescott Rockhounds, superintendent of the Yavapai County Fair, was proud to be a charter member of Prescott Frontier Days, Inc. So she served as chairman for 25 years, and she became one of the first recipients of the coveted Juan Levias award.
Sylvia had a unique ability to talk to new members of the rodeo committee and immediately make them feel welcome and at ease. She really had a “gift of the gab” as Jim made fun of her with affection. fossil collection (recently donated to the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago) and a fossil named after her and Jim.
Sylvia was preceded by her parents Betty and Charles. her brothers, Chuck and John; And her beloved husband of 72 years, Jim. She is survived by her children, Lenny Anderson and JC (Peggy) Konekny. Her grandchildren, Tristin (Mike) Wilson and Jeff Her Anderson. Her great-grandchildren, Daisy Terry, Violet Terry and Maddy (Anderson) Averill. Her constant love, support and kindness will be missed by her loving family.
A private family celebration is planned, but no public services are planned at this time.
