If you’re looking for a peaceful town in Arizona (or want to move!), would you recommend Florence? Far enough away to feel like Boasting a rich history, incredible scenery, friendly locals, a laid-back slow-paced lifestyle and even a monastery, Florence seems to stand still.
Conveniently located 77 miles north of Tucson and 61 miles southeast of Phoenix, Florence is a medium-sized town of just under 27,000 and offers a slower-paced lifestyle than its metropolitan neighbours.
One of the oldest towns in Pinal County, Florence is considered a National Historic District. There are more than 25 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, from the first Pinal County Courthouse built in 1876 (pictured) to historic saloons, hotels, shops and everything in between.
The downtown district is undeniably charming, with quaint shops, restaurants and museums dotted among old buildings. You can also see vintage murals that take you back in time.
Florence is also an incredibly beautiful place, surrounded by towering mountains and the abundant and majestic saguaro cacti that define the Sonoran Desert. Oh, and frequently ranked among the safest and most peaceful places in Arizona. What don’t you like about this town?

The epitome of a charming small-town diner, this humble restaurant is known for its hearty breakfast options. Not only is the food excellent, but the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service also contribute to the overall sense of well-being that the city of Florence evokes.
For history buffs out there (who also have high-clearance vehicles), the Florence Coke Oven can’t be missed.Accessed via a 27-mile loop that begins at the intersection of Cottonwood Canyon Road and Mineral Mountain Road, these history buffs A typical oven was used in the early 1900s to produce coke, a fuel for iron ore.
Note that the road leading to the oven is public, but the building itself is on private property. Additionally, the road is closed for several weeks each year due to military training exercises. During this time, a red flag will be hoisted overhead and a sign will be posted at the front door. Recreating this area requires permission from State Trust Land.
