There is no substitute for this relationship building and it has proven to be more beneficial than a regular email or phone call.
It’s been a busy few weeks, but there’s a lot more to come. I would like to highlight our visit to Washington, DC to meet with our federal delegation and many federal offices such as the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, and the US Department of War. engineer. The purpose of this annual trip is to bring Flagstaff’s needs to the fore and seek funding for various projects.
Rep. Laurie Matthews, Rep. Miranda Sweet, and I were representatives on the Flagstaff City Council, joined by Sean Johnson, Mayor and City Council Chief of Staff, Communications Director Sarah Langley, and Senior Deputy Mayor Shannon Anderson. . Federal lobbyist Bob Holmes also attended. I mention that city officials have joined us because it is important to continue lobbying the federal government.
There were a total of 15 meetings in the two days we were there and the support we received for several projects was impressive. These projects ranged from flood mitigation measures to Rio Defragmentation and beyond.
We met with Senators Cinema and Senator Kerry, as well as Rep. Crain, Rep. Ciscomani, Rep. Gallego, Gosser and Stanton. At these meetings, we emphasized the need for funding for forest health initiatives and, of course, additional flood mitigation measures.
Our meeting with federal agencies talks about what we can do to further protect forest health and communities, from a request for funding to the FAA for a building to house new snow removal equipment at Flagstaff Airport It even extended to a meeting with the Department of Agriculture for
The ability to speak face-to-face with representatives about community needs is critical to achieving the kind of support needed to get funding or to keep a previously funded project on track. There is no substitute for this relationship building and it has proven to be more beneficial than a regular email or phone call.
The quality and frequency of communication and collaboration with federal representatives and federal offices is important to the well-being of our city and its residents, and we will continue to work hard to improve the quality of life for all in our community.FBN
