When is the trial?
A retrial for 41-year-old Christopher Clements is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sept. 12 in Pima County Superior Court in Tucson, the court said at a hearing Tuesday. He faces three charges against him, including first-degree murder, robbery, and kidnapping of a minor under the age of 15, in connection with Isabel’s death and disappearance.
The court has estimated that the retrial will take place over the course of four weeks, ending October 6. A preliminary date for the exam was scheduled for his February 6th, if necessary.
Who is Isabel Celis?
Isabel was a six-year-old girl who lived with her siblings and parents in Tucson. On the night of April 20, 2012, she went to bed and she was never seen alive again.
In 2017, Clements told the Federal Bureau of Investigation that he knew where her body was buried. He took them to the remote desert area of Marana, where her body was found.
Why is Clements facing a second trial?
Clements met with a jury on the same three charges in February, but the jury remained at a standstill and couldn’t agree on the first-degree murder charge. Judge James Marner declared it a miscarriage of justice.
Wasn’t Clements convicted in another murder trial?
In September, Clements was also charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping of 13-year-old Maribel Gonzalez, who went missing on the night of June 3, 2014, while she was walking to a friend’s house. .
Clements was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder and 17 years in prison for kidnapping a teenage victim.
