good morning.The Connecticut Judiciary Branch is about to update the state practice book. Hearing Monday at 10 a.m. Streaming onlineconsiders new rules for cash bail to make it easier for those awaiting trial to stay out of jail until their court date.
The rules allow pretrial release if bail is set at $50,000 or less, and you can pay 7% of the bail. Republicans argue that state legislatures should consider changing this rule, warning that cash bail changes would allow serious offenders to get back on the streets. Democrats and civil rights groups argue that cash bail disproportionately hurts people of color.

The Connecticut House of Representatives has approved a bill banning marriage under the age of 18 in the state. Neighboring New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts have already enacted bans to curb arranged marriages and human trafficking, according to sponsors. Republicans called the bill a “feel good measure.” The bill will go to the State Senate.
Norwich Public Utilities will send a crew to Arizona this week to help electrify the Navajo. The “Light Up Navajo” project is a partnership between the Navajo Tribe and the American Public Electricity Association. The Navajo territory is about five times the size of Connecticut. About 12,000 of his 55,000 reserved homes have no electricity.
Basketball Hall of Famer Ray Allen received his bachelor’s degree from UConn on Saturday. Allen was the fifth overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft after spending three years with UConn. Allen started taking one class in the first semester when he was still playing in the NBA in 2008.

Thirty air traffic controllers are allowed to stay on Long Island. The Federal Aviation Administration canceled an order to move air traffic controllers from their offices in Westbury to Philadelphia after several Long Island families protested. At the Westbury facility, known as TRACON, his 176 air traffic controllers handle air traffic for Kennedy, LaGuardia, East He’s Farmingdale’s Republic, Islip’s Long Island, Newark’s MacArthur, etc. employs an officer.

Retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Ronald “Ron” P. Welch has been appointed Commissioner of the Connecticut Veterans Administration. Welch has served in the military for nearly 40 years, and since retiring in 2017, has worked with a local nonprofit that helps veterans leave military service.
The New York State Police will step up patrols on the Southern State Parkway. The 25 Mile Road is one of Long Island’s most dangerous park roads. The state police announced it would target drunk driving checkpoints, speeding and distracted driving enforcement, and aggressive drivers.
