WMR has had an excellent run throughout 2023, with three different winners in the three races so far. Dustin Cormany won the season opener at Adobe Mountain Speedway in Glendale, Arizona, and was taken over by Drake Edwards at Mojave Valley Raceway in March. Bryant Bell of Oakley, Calif., topped his 14-car field at his Ventura raceway in April and is his latest WMR feature winner.

Phoenix’s AJ Hernandez finished on the podium twice, joining Las Vegas’ Kyle Horse for the top spot in the standings. Jose’s best finish this season is fifth in Sunland Wood Products’ number 20.

Bell made the most of his first start of the season in Ventura, leading Tony Bosquatch’s No. Zero 9 Spike chassis to victory. He led 2022 champion teammate Blake Bower (Brentwood) across the finish line. Bower had great success at Ocean Speedway, taking nine feature wins on the quarter-mile dirt track. He also has his three wins on the No. 9 Orlando Public Auto Auction Spike Chassis at Petaluma Speedway.

Fresno’s David Prickett took his 10th career checkered flag at Ocean Speedway in the midget competition. He won the Bay Cities Racing Association outright in 2017, plus eight WMR wins. In the 2019 WMR/BCRA combination, Prickett challenged for the WMR car’s overall victory, ultimately finishing second, but was credited with helping the Western Midgets win.

Prickett also won one at Petaluma Speedway with WMR, beating Watsonville’s Tyler Sleigh. Slay also beat Prickett at Ocean Speedway in August 2020. Prickett will be teaming up with Cameron Beard to drive Sorey’s former No. 6 car this weekend, with Prickett taking over the controls.

The top five on the standings include Todd Hawes of Moorpark, CA, Racing Silva of Henderson, NV and Nate Waite of Lodi.

Santa Cruz’s Logan Mitchell will be back at his home racetrack for Friday’s race after winning a heat race at Ventura. Sigalsports participated in WMR with two cars driven by Darin Horton and Gene Sigal in the No.66 and No.68 Spike chassis. San Jose’s Norman in his Harley Rose returns to racing with the assistance of his No.10 Stealth his chassis by sponsorship from his muffler Bay.
