The mother of a fugitive found in Mexico with a Guangdong teenage boy is missing and authorities fear she may have been victimized.

A missing persons report was filed for Nicole D. Jones, 53, on May 5. sylvanian township police I was asked to check on her, but she was not found. According to the report, Canton State Police requested a welfare check after receiving information that Ms Jones may have been injured or worsened.

Sylvanian Township Deputy Police Chief Jim Rettig released a copy of the report and confirmed her identity.

“Police officers from the Sylvania Township Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service entered the home but were unable to locate the woman who was asked to identify her,” police said in a statement. “Information gathered during the ensuing investigation led the department to believe that the missing woman was in harm’s way. This is an active investigation.”
