Kingman – Organizers are gearing up for the annual Route 66 Street Drags, which this year will see more than 200 participants and 10,000 spectators from around the world.
The event will take place on historic Route 66 in Kingman, Arizona from Friday, May 19th through Sunday, May 21st. Brian Devinchange said street drag represents the pride of Kingman, Route 66 and everyone (legally) dreaming of street racing. He said attendees are keen to break records and see a variety of unique cars. The current record is 4.82 seconds for the 1/8 mile segment.
“Street drugs made Kingman famous,” Devincenzi said. “We will host the world’s largest legal street drag on the world’s oldest road.”
The races feature different categories such as muscle cars, bikes and trucks. Participants must register at kingmanrt66streetdrags.com by May 15th. General admission is $20, and her children under 6 are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Spectator parking is available at the Mojave County Fairgrounds at 2600 Fairground Blvd. A trolley will take you to the west gate entrance. North entrance gates are located on Airfield Avenue and Andy Devine Avenue. There will also be food and craft stalls at the event.
Currently, the weekend’s prize pool is worth $13,000 and 11 street champions will be crowned.
Devincenzi said the event will allow attendees to fulfill their dreams and share the history of Route 66 with visitors. The event keeps Motherhi Road’s charm alive and makes Kingman a destination for history buffs and car enthusiasts alike.
“We are trying to help preserve Route 66,” Devincenzi said.
