YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma Police Department (YPD) will be implementing details of its Disabled Driving Enforcement for Memorial Day weekend.
The measures will start from Friday, May 26 to Monday, May 29, according to the YPD. This is to ensure road safety during consecutive holidays.
The YPD also announced that additional police officers would roam the streets and monitor drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
He added that the YPD is working with San Luis Police Department, Somerton Police Department, and Welton Police Department to recommend following the five steps provided by the police.
- Plan a safe way back *before* the party starts.
- Designate a sober person before drinking and leave the car keys at home.
- If you can’t drive, call a cab, Uber driver, sober friend or family member.
- If you see a driver driving under the influence of alcohol, call 119 immediately.
- If you know someone who is trying to get drunk, take their keys and help them find another way to get to their destination.
“Remember to have fun,” YPD said, but called on the community to enjoy responsibly.
