Aurora resident Valta A. Roth, 92, died Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Memorial Community Care.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church, 1104 A Street, Aurora. Reverend Bob Gannon will officiate. Burial will take place in the Aurora Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Higby-McKiston Mortuary. Worship services will be live streamed on the church website www.umcaurora.org. A memorial may be erected at the Hamilton Community Foundation Scholarship Fund in the names of Valta and Cindy Ross. Valta Aldean Ross, son of Samuel E. Ross and Blanche M. (Kissel) Ross, was born in Sutton on July 31, 1930, in Aurora on May 25, 2023 at the age of 92. Passed away.
Valta grew up in Stockham and attended Stockham Public Schools until she was in third grade before the family moved to Aurora. He graduated from Aurora High School in his 1947 and spent the rest of his life in Aurora.
Valta married Sharon D. Ramey on October 19, 1958 in Aurora. The couple had three children, Valerie, Kelly, and Ryan, who died before his father on October 13, 1968 at the age of six.
Valta then married Lucinda “Cindy” (Eich) Jensen on October 7, 1983 in Aurora. With this marriage, Valta’s family was joined by Kipton, Carey, and Dick Jensen. Cindy She passed away on June 30, 2011.
Valta served as a Corporal in the United States Army, 6th Helicopter Company, 150th Helicopter Field Maintenance Division. He trained in Chickasaw Helicopters at Sikorsky Helicopters, then served overseas during the Korean War as Crew Chief and Master Helicopter Mechanic, making it the first military helicopter company in history to be deployed in a combat area. rice field.
Valta is a Veterans Affairs Officer in Hamilton County, Nebraska, serving the needs of veterans for 30 years. He is a Post Commander of Foreign War Veterans Post #4993 and a member of Legion of America Post #42.
He ran many businesses in Aurora over 50 years. He, along with his father Samuel Ross and his younger brother Doyle, were co-owners of SE Ross & Sons, an Alice Chalmers dealership. After that, Ross established his company, Equipment & Cycles, selling Indian and Ducati bikes. Valta also owned Ross Insurance & Realty, selling insurance to MFA (which later became Shelter Insurance) for the rest of his career. After his retirement, Valta worked part-time as a real estate agent and most recently worked at the clubhouse of Poco Creek Golf his course until 2020. He was 90 and fully retired.
Valta played baritone in the Hamilton County Band, a band started by his father, Samuel Ross, from 1945 to 2023 (78 years). He served the community as an Aurora City Councilman from his 1966 to 1968 and was also former president of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce.
As a young man, Valta raced on the White Spot Motorcycle Club circuit and was a member of the American Motorcyclist Association.
His hobbies included music, cabin fishing, senior league golf, restoring antique cars and motorcycles, gardening, watching Cubs and Braves baseball games, traveling, making wine, and was also an amateur radio operator. I often saw him around town with his puppies (Spike, Abbie, Sadie and Molly) in the car every day and telling lots of stories and jokes.

Valta was a member of Aurora’s Faith Community Church.
His parents and wife Cindy had died earlier. his son, Kelly Jay Roth; and his sisters Beverly (Ross) Blue and Deanna (Ross) Cooley.
His memory is cherished by his children, Valerie (Ross) Bollard, who lives in Redmond, Oregon. Ryan (Sheri) Ross from Sioux City, Iowa. Kip (Marion) Jensen from Decatur, Georgia.
