A Lake Havasu man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for firing a salvo last Memorial Day weekend that endangered dozens of civilians but injured no one. .
Mojave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert has sentenced Andrés Aguilar, 21, who previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and firing a firearm into a structure.
Lake Havasu City Police said an altercation that began on May 30, 2022 in the lower parking lot of London Bridge Beach at 1420 North McCulloch Blvd. He announced that he had fired six shots. A vehicle with 5 passengers. No one was injured in the shooting, but one bullet penetrated the trunk of the car and remained in the back seat.
Several bullets strayed from the vehicle and hit a popular restaurant crowded with holiday customers.
“Thank God no one was killed in the car or the Javelina Cantina,” Judge Lambert said. “That restaurant was full of regular customers.”
Aguilar told Judge Lambert that he had faith in the judicial system.
“I would like to take the time to thank the court for its patience,” Aguilar said. “I trust you and I am ready for the results you are going to give me.”
Judge Lambert rejected defense counsel’s argument for simultaneous punishment for the two convictions. Lambert said he served two five-year sentences before reaching 10 years in prison, and that the assault and shooting convictions were clearly separate crimes.
