Since the fall, an estimated 16,000 immigrant children have entered New York City public schools. according to to the New York Post.
A school on West 105th Street in New York City, which has 535 students, has exceeded capacity by 100 due to a surge in illegal immigration to the area, according to the Times. As of 2022, the school had 393 students.
As a result of this influx, the school converted music rooms, science labs and television studios into classrooms, depriving students of space for key after-school and daily programs, the newspaper said. Some parents at the school are outraged by the issue.
“This is completely unacceptable,” said Anna Asvorinski, the parent of two children at the school. “These kids deserve better,” she added.

“Some of these kids didn’t know their ABCs in second grade,” Emelia Bruscantini, a center teacher at Milam Kindergarten through Grade 8, told NPR.

“Honestly, sometimes I walk into the lobby and it’s like there’s family all over the place and they’re just waiting,” Hernandez told NPR.
