According to Fox5, each shelter will host 19 adult men, with a total of 1,000 people expected to be housed in places of worship by August.

According to Fox5, the city will pay $125 per migrant per night to provide laundry services and security guards at the new shelters. The city’s current shelter program costs $380 per day per immigrant, bringing the total to $1.2 billion.
“I don’t like to use the word cheap, but it’s much more cost-effective,” Monrose said. “And it gives cities a better chance to help immigrants have hope.”
According to Fox5, Monrose stressed that the faith center is temporary, so it’s unclear how long the faith center will be used as an immigration shelter.
According to FOX5, the city’s Democratic Mayor Eric Adams hailed the move as a much-needed effort. Adams has faced pushback from neighboring counties, including Rockland, which hosts some of the immigrants he busses out of the city.
“As we continue to grapple with this humanitarian crisis, through a new partnership with New York City Interfaith Disaster Services, faith communities in New York City are providing shelter to asylum seekers in need at five boroughs of worship. We are proud to offer it.” Not only will this increase her bed capacity by nearly 1,000, but it will also connect asylum seekers with the community. New York City will continue to do all it can to address this crisis, but we need additional support from our other partners,” Adams said.
