House Republicans are pick up a pair of banknotes This week aims to ban further moves by Biden administration regulators to ban gas stoves, and Democrats like Florida Rep. It lashes out that the effort doesn’t really exist.
In an interview, Moskovitz said, told CBS News“No one wants to ban gas stoves. Neither does the Biden administration. (Related: David Blackmon: Is Texas turning its back on renewable energy?)
One of the most reliable rules of thumb in recent years is that warnings about upcoming government action dismissed as “conspiracy theories” by left-wing politicians and their media supporters were received within about three to six months. that it will become a fact. Nowhere in the energy sector is this rule working more reliably than in the ongoing debate over gas stoves and whether governments are going to ban them.
When Consumer Product Safety Commissioner (CPSC) Rich Tolmka started talking about starting an effort to regulate gas stoves for public health reasons late last year, this is what I and others thought. who warned The real goal of the Biden administration and Democratic governors like New York’s Kathy Hochol and California’s Gavin Newsom is an outright ban on consumer electronics, even being labeled a “conspiracy theorist.” there were.
Six months later, efforts to ban stoves are now in full swing at the federal and state levels.
Democrats like Moskowitz aside, the fact is that the Biden Department of Energy has already enacted efficiency regulations banning half of all gas stove models currently on the market, and the CPSC is looking for ways to impose even tighter regulations. Consider it non-existent or too expensive to buy. Long Beach and other California cities are now banning natural gas connections in new buildings, with regulators in the state and Colorado considering their own bans.
New York City has already enacted a similar partial ban, and Ho-Chol and Albany Democrats are pushing what they call a “ban.” heat actIt would also ban natural gas connections to new buildings in the state. At a recent rally in support of the bill, New York Democratic Senator Liz Krueger said her bill would not just ban appliances, but would actually eliminate natural gas use and infrastructure altogether. acknowledged that it was about the party’s more overarching goals.
“The entire system of gas infrastructure is aging and is costing hundreds of millions of dollars more to repair,” he said. “Why? It’s not even supposed to use gas. We all know that.”
Kruger continued his thoughts in a subsequent interview with a local news program. “I’m not too concerned about this moving to other toll payers,” he said. “We are much more concerned that the cost of keeping modern gas pipe systems working is actually hundreds of billions of dollars and that it will come down to everyone.” The alternatives proposed by proponents of the natural gas ban are unreliable and consistently prove to be far more expensive than the cost of maintaining and improving the current existing infrastructure.
But Senator Kruger’s voice is never alone. on monday, Quoted by Bloomberg Michael Hernandez, New York policy director at Rewiring America, agrees that the HEAT Act lays the groundwork for the complete elimination of natural gas. “If the use of fossil fuels in new construction is banned, it makes sense to say, ‘Let’s stop building gas infrastructure,'” he said.
Interestingly, according to the US Energy Information Administration, natural gas provided 46% of the state’s electricity in 2022. If this is all just conspiracy theory, then this is a very big conspiracy theory.
