Western Midget Racing Kicks off Exciting Summer Stretch With Ocean and Petaluma This Weekend

Western Midget Racing kicks off an exciting summer marquee race this weekend, competing at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway on Friday night and heading to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night. The NorCal doubleheader will feature his 360 sprint car on both nights, and the Petaluma event will feature his sprint car challenge tour.

After the doubleheader, WMR heads south to Ventura Raceway on June 17th for the prestigious ‘Wags Dash Reunion in Honor of Mrs. Wags’. With his $1,000 prize for winning the Midget Feature, the event will feature the USAC West Coast 360 Team, the California Lightning Sprint, and the Dwarf His Cars, thanks to the excellent planning and support of Ken Wagner.

The countdown to the 13th Annual Howard Kading Classic is also underway, as midgets flock to Ocean Speedway for two nights of competition on July 14th and 15th. Friday’s action will feature his 360 sprint his car and the NARC 410 will add color to Saturday’s festivities. WMR competes for extra purses and bonuses. Coming soon. Live music, barbecues and entertainment are planned throughout the weekend thanks to the efforts of Bud Kading and the entire Kading family.

The 2023 season is off to an exciting start for WMR with an average of 17 cars throughout the season. Driven by 2022 champion Blake Bower (Brentwood) and Bryant Bell (Oakley), the Tony Boscacci-owned entry trapped all three rounds in California. Bell won at Ventura Raceway on April 29th, followed by an exciting win at Petaluma Speedway on May 13th. The defending champions scored Bower’s 10th career Ocean victory at Ocean Speedway on Friday, May 12.

Brentwood teenager Adrianna Demartini is set to race this weekend and has brought some great racing experience, including more than 80 starts in micro sprints before making her midget debut.

Santa Cruz’s Logan Mitchell has two top-five finishes this year and hopes to add to that total by driving the No. 96x Boss chassis at his home track this weekend. Kyle Horse of Las Vegas continues his climb up the order in 20th for Sunland Wood Products, with two fifth-place finishes and one sixth-place finish. Moorpark’s Todd Horse continues to finish fifth in 2023. Horse Abbey carpet No. 31N.

San Jose’s Anthony Bruno brings his micro sprint and wingless spec sprint experience to WMR and will be racing this weekend on a bay muffler’s No. 10 stealth chassis.

Lodi’s Nate Waite is close to breaking through to win in 2023. He finished second at Ocean on May 12 and led his first nine laps at Petaluma the following night, aiming for the WMR win in the #76.
