Paramount released the first teaser on Friday for “Special Ops: Lioness,” a new series from “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan.
1 minute long teaser trailer Because this highly anticipated series is so heart-wrenching that you’ll have to watch it five times just to get a sense of how much material Sheridan has packed into what is clearly an epic series. Because it didn’t. From Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana to Michael Kelly and Laisla de Oliveira, the show promises to be the biggest new show of 2023.
“Special Ops: The Lioness is an all-new series based on real-life programming about Cruz Manuelos, a brutal but passionate young Marine who is recruited to join the Lioness Combat Team to help take down a terrorist organization. from the inside,” according to the teaser description.
The trailer further expands on this description, adding that Project Lioness participants will “find out the wives and daughters of high-value targets” and place operatives near them. And the CIA kills the target. (Read more: ‘1923’ star Brian Geraghty says Taylor Sheridan was ‘tortured’ during training for blockbuster show)
The series is based on an actual CIA program within the U.S. military, but in true Sheridan fashion goes far beyond the inside and outside of the operation. Unlike any other writer, Sheridan has the skill to draw you into the emotional lives of the characters he creates and take you on a complete journey with them. When I read his writings, I often find myself conflicted with the fact that I have no idea who is good and who is not.
And so is his insane ability to combine action with emotion-based adrenaline. This is some of the coolest work I’ve ever seen on TV, so it’s clear Paramount didn’t skimp on the budget for this series either.
