A man was shot dead Thursday morning after he got into an altercation with a Navajo police officer in Caibeto. At 4:30 a.m., police responded to a domestic harassment call involving a drunken man who was vandalizing his home and refusing to go out, officials said. When police arrived at the mansion, the man was nowhere to be found. After the officers left, the NPD received another call that the same subject was trying to break into the residence. When the police returned, they made contact with a man who was combative. A police officer fired a taser during the encounter. The man then forcibly took the taser and tried to use it on the police. The officer was able to reach for the gun and used it to shoot the man dead. The man was pronounced dead at the scene after police began a rescue operation before paramedics arrived, the NPD said. The case was referred to the Navajo Criminal Investigation Service and the FBI for further investigation.
