“Your current medication prescription will be affected by the legislation in force regarding gender positivity care,” according to an email obtained by the newspaper. “VUMC will not fulfill replenishment requests for medications prescribed for gender acknowledgment care after June 1, 2023. Must have a completion date more than 1 day in advance.”

Tennessee is one of 11 states with laws restricting child sex reassignment procedures.
“Gender-affirming care will remain legal during our challenge period if we obtain a preliminary injunction from a judge that blocks the enforcement of certain parts of the law before the effective date of July 1. Similar laws are being blocked in Alabama and Arkansas while the trials are ongoing,” ACLU spokesman Gillian Brunstetter in Tennessee told the Nashville Post.
Tennessee law threatens to strip doctors of their licenses if they perform sex reassignment treatments on minors, and provides avenues for parents to sue if their children undergo treatment without parental consent. .
“We remain in full compliance with all federal and state laws regarding gender-positive care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and will carefully follow legal proceedings that challenge the constitutionality of Tennessee’s new law.
