Eight days after renewing its contract as the City of Lake Havasu’s designated marketing organization to promote tourism, Go Lake Havasu is considering replacing top staff.
Go Lake Havasu President and CEO Terrence Concannon stepped down from his position with the organization on Wednesday, effective immediately. Mr. Concannon’s resignation took place on the same day that Go Lake Havasu’s board of directors held an executive meeting to conduct its annual year-end review prior to the start of the new fiscal year.
“We accepted his resignation this afternoon and we wish him all the best in the future,” said Go Lake Havasu board chair Heather Petaiszyski. “We know he’s going to be great at whatever he does.”
Mr. Concannon was hired in the summer of 2017 as President of Go Lake Havasu (then City of Lake Havasu Convention and Visitors Bureau). Prior to that he had worked in the hospitality and tourism industry in California for nearly 20 years.
“It has been an absolute honor to share the story of Lake Havasu City with the world over the past six years,” Concannon told the Today News Herald via text message. “I am excited about this new adventure and look forward to seeing Lake Havasu City grow and innovate. I am proud to have led an amazing staff who have contributed to our Board of Directors and City Council and to the tremendous efforts they have made to improve our community for both residents and visitors. Thank you, let’s go to Lake Havasu!”
Mr. Petaiszyski said the board has no plans to name an interim chairman at this time, but plans to begin a search soon to replace Mr. Concannon. In the meantime, she said, if staff needed direction, she would be referred to the Go Lake Havasu executive committee.
“The staff have done very well what they are doing and we do not anticipate any interruptions during this transition period,” said Petaiszyski. “We look forward to the opportunity to find a dynamic leader for this organization. We are thrilled to find a leader who will take us to the level we believe we can reach.”
While the board is still working out details on how to proceed with the search for a new president, Petaiszyski said the ideal candidate for the board will possess extensive marketing knowledge, strong leadership qualities and manages a lot of personality. He said he has the ability to do so. To find candidates to join our community.
“We want to focus more on community,” said Petaiszyski. “We want the community to know what we do and how it benefits them.”
