A former NBC intern said he was assaulted by a man who became CNN’s top executive in 1996, according to legal documents filed Thursday.

The lawsuit, filed in New York under the Adult Survivors Act, states, “He began kissing and molesting her without her consent, and even though she did not respond to the kisses or molestation, he did so.” continued.”

According to the complaint, Mr. Rajaraman sought an interview with Mr. Basu, who was then a senior producer on The Today Show, but Mr. Basu was “extremely cold and negative” and offered no assistance in finding a job. It is said that
“Plaintiff ultimately understood that she was being punished for refusing to have sexual intercourse with her superior,” the complaint reads.
New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul signed The Adult Survivors Act was enacted on May 24, 2022, providing a one-year “retroactive” period for survivors of sexual assault to file a lawsuit, even if the statute of limitations had expired.
