Former Cop Convicted Of Rape After DNA Links Him To Crime

A former Los Angeles police officer has been found guilty of rape after a DNA test linked him to a 2015 crime, officials said.

William Rodriguez, 38, was convicted of raping an off-duty woman in 2015, according to KTLA report June 22nd.Rodriguez was arrested in 2019 on multiple sexual charges after law enforcement took a “cold hit” to his DNA through a combined DNA indexing system known as CODIS for a 2015 crime, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. press release said at the time.

Authorities launched an investigation into Rodriguez after a woman accused him of raping him in 2018, a 10-year police veteran. Authorities linked Rodriguez to the 2015 rape after his DNA appeared in the CODIS system while investigating the case. In the case, Rodriguez allegedly drove the victim to an undisclosed location and raped him, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office cited by KTLA.

According to the newspaper, Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to both rape charges during his first court appearance about four years ago. Jurors in Rodriguez’s case deliberated for an hour and a half before finding him guilty of the 2015 rape but not guilty of the 2018 assault allegations that sparked the investigation. The same paper reported.

District Attorney George Gascon praised the two women who came forward, saying, “Justice has been served to one of the victims of a heinous crime committed by a police officer charged with protecting and serving our community. Rodriguez was convicted of a 2015 crime, but a verdict is not expected until August 10.
