The federal government said construction will begin this week
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) – Customs and Border Protection announced that the closure of the gap in the Yuma wall will begin this week.
However, construction has not yet started.
The federal government first announced its intention to close the gap in December 2021.
Before that, thousands of immigrants were passing through the gap.
In 2022, local border agents made more than 300,000 arrests.
There are reportedly plans to place temporary mesh barriers in the gaps between the four walls of the Morelos Dam, with the project expected to be completed in July.
The gap was left after President Biden took office and signed an executive order halting all construction of the southern border wall.
