A man arrested in Yuma in early February has been charged with 42 counts, including attempted murder and aggravated assault, after police said he was involved in seven incidents between 2017 and 2023. It is
Jesús Javier Ibarra Martinez Jr. was arrested by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office on February 9 and questioned by Yuma Police Department detectives regarding several unsolved cases, according to the Yuma Police Department.
Through interviews and an investigation that included forensics, detectives discovered Ibarra-Martinez Jr. was involved in seven cases dating back to May 2017.
On May 28, 2017, Yuma police were called into the South Magnolia Avenue and West Third Street area regarding the shooting. When police arrived, they found a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his back. A nearby residence was also shot, police said.
Ybarra-Martinez Jr. faces several charges in the case, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and participation in a criminal street gang.
On February 26, 2022, Yuma police responded to a call of people being shot on Second and Fifth Avenues, where they found a 31-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. bottom. Ybarra Martinez Jr. has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Police said he was also involved in the shooting and robbery that killed six people in the early hours of January 21.
Officers responded to a robbery call on West Buckeye Road and South 10th Avenue around 2 a.m., the statement said.
Police learned that three men approached a 46-year-old man on West Buckeye Road and South 10th Street as he was unlocking a 2005 Ford F150. The three pointed a revolver at the man and stole his wallet and truck keys. The same truck was reportedly stolen from the victim’s home on January 24, police said.
Around 4:00 am on January 21, police found two men, ages 22 and 35, shot near South Margo Drive and West Ninth Street. As the two men approached, he fired and drove away. Both victims were hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.
Shortly after, Yuma police responded to a call about three people, including two teenagers aged 17 and 18, who were shot dead near Fifth and 17th Avenues. Police said they were shot by two men. Two teenagers were seriously injured.
Police shot all five people dead and identified Ibarra Martinez Jr. as the man who stole their wallets and car keys, the statement said. It was not immediately clear whether other suspects had been arrested.
Ibarra-Martinez Jr. faces second-degree murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and gang-related charges in connection with these cases.
Police said two men were assaulted in an attempted armed robbery on January 28 at Food City on South 13th and West 8th Avenues. Ybarra-Martinez Jr. has been charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery.
Then, on January 29, Yuma police responded to reports of gunshots fired near East 22nd Street and South Walnut Avenue, finding multiple shell casings and a home damaged by the impact of the bullets. Police have arrested boys aged 16 and 17 in connection with the incident.

According to the release, police said an investigation revealed that Ibarra-Martinez Jr. drove two teenagers to the area and purchased the firearms used in the shooting. He faces several aggravated assault and gang-related charges.
Yuma police said a total of 16 people were killed, seven of whom were shot dead.
Ibarra Martinez Jr. has been in custody since his arrest in February and has been charged with:
