Bella Noyes, a dancer and Heritage Academy freshman, is ready to compete for the state title on July 21 at the Miss America pageant.
Noiz moved to Maricopa with her parents and sister in 2014 and wants to represent Maricopa with poise and confidence.
“I’ve wanted to do this since I was really young,” she said.
Noyce has been dancing since she was 3 years old, but this will be her first time challenging herself to the glamorous world.
The three-day competition in Scottsdale includes four categories: interview, self-introduction, formal wear, and community service.
Noyce will compete in the 13-15 year old group.
In preparation, Noyce has worked on her gait, posture, and speech to feel confident on stage.
Contestants begin by introducing themselves in hopes of making a good first impression on the judges and audience.
“I think I got the point pretty well,” Noyce said. “Because it’s about you.”
During the interview segment, Noyce sits one-on-one with eight panelists and emphasizes effective communication and eye contact.
After that, she will be in the spotlight with an emerald green dress as a model.
“You’re not judged by your beauty,” says Noyce. “It’s about how confident you are walking, not slouching and trying to smile naturally.”
Contestants will also be asked to prepare their resumes and volunteer in the community as part of their preparation for the competition.
Mr. Noyes baked a variety of cookies and dog treats and donated bags of books to local libraries, including Copper Sky and Terry’s Little Free Library.
“Around Easter, we delivered dog cookies to the park and made a lot of cookies for people all over town,” Noyes said.
Noyce will also be competing in an optional casual wear contest to showcase her style and personality.
Although it’s her first go-around, Noyce is confident she can show her personality.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” she said.
