A rosary, paint ceremony and memorial dinner will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Eagle Hall in Arapahoe, Wyoming.
Yavonda passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023 in Tacoma, Washington. Her funeral and burial was held on June 21, 2023 in Nisqually, Washington.
Yavonda Lee Hubbard Kalama was born on March 19, 1975 in Fort Defiance, Arizona. She is the daughter of Gwynne Seebaring of Riverton, Wyoming and George Hubbard of Ganado, Arizona. She Yavonda is a registered member of the Northern Arapaho Nation and she was baptized into the Catholic faith. She spent her childhood in Idaho Falls, Idaho and most of her youth in Henderson, Nevada before she moved to the Wind River Reservation. After meeting and marrying her husband Karl Kalama, she spent the rest of her life in Washington State as a devoted wife and mother to her daughter Carlissa and three sons Karl Jr., Vincent and Ryder.
Yavonda excelled in school as a child and youth, consistently winning academic and sports awards. She was a member of the honor society both in middle school and high school. She graduated from Wyoming Indian High School and was a Lady Chiefs cross-country and basketball player. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. She then worked at Northern Arapaho Tribal Homes. Yavonda loved spending time with her brothers, cousins and friends. She also loved beadwork, cooking, and anything related to being with her relatives. After building her own home in Washington, D.C., she became her devoted mother and wife, always giving children as much as possible through her cooking, crafting, and helping others. I have tried to give you the best of life. Her family and friends remember her as a loyal, witty, beautiful, generous, humble, organized, and smart person. She was always proud to be Northern Arapaho and Navajo and passed on her knowledge to her children.
Survivors include her husband, Karl Kalama, and daughter, Karlissa. Sons, Carl Jr., Vincent, Ryder. Her parents are Gwynne Seebaring and George Hubbard. Her brother, Pat (Brenda) Hubbard and children, Al her Hubbard, Julian (Jolene) Hubbard and children. Her sister Jill (Tyrus) Seabaring and her best friend Brenda Hubbard. She also has many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews in the Seabaring, Hubbard, O’Neill, Addison, Brown, Jenkins, Friday, Grosbeck, Warren, Sunrose, Goggles, Shotgun, Oldman family. bottom.
Yavonda was preceded by her maternal grandparents, Al Cie Baring and Bernice Jenkins. her paternal grandparents, Clarence and Margaret Hubbard; Her most recent grandparent was Caroline Tiger.
