The monsoon is intensifying this week, with storms likely every afternoon, especially in the south and east of Tucson.

Extreme heat warnings have been lifted for southeastern Arizona due to significant increases in humidity. You can smell and feel that dampness when you walk out your door, especially south and east of Tucson. As a result, the temperature hasn’t dropped much this morning, so expect 70 to 80 degrees outside. This morning will start warmly, but with the humidity rising, the temperature won’t rise much. Today’s highs will be only a few degrees above normal, with temperatures in the warmest spots rising to around 104/105 degrees in the afternoon. Highs are expected to be in the mid to high 90s and low 100s in the south and east.

Storms are most likely to form in the afternoon and evening south and east of Tucson. Storms will begin in the early afternoon in Santa Cruz and Cochise County. The biggest impacts include lightning strikes, gusts of wind, blowing dust and short periods of heavy rain.
