RFK Jr. Claims U.S. Pressured Zelenskyy Not To Make Peace With Russia

Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in a Fox News interview Wednesday that “ultranationalists” in the United States and Ukraine pressured President Volodymyr Zelensky not to make peace with Russia.

The presidential candidate stopped by Fox News tonight to give his thoughts on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Guest moderator Piers Morgan brought up President Kennedy’s past remarks that the two countries should immediately negotiate a settlement to end the conflict. Morgan said that under the current circumstances, any settlement talks would likely mean handing over some of the Ukrainian territory to Putin. President Kennedy said President Morgan Putin is already ready to sign a peace treaty to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

“Well, it gets harder and harder, but you know, you have to remember that Putin twice agreed to sign a treaty that should have essentially given us everything.” said RFK.

“In both the Minsk Accords and the April 2022 Treaty, Putin wanted that ethnic Donbass could remain part of Ukraine while protecting the Russian population from government violence. A government installed by the United States, NATO not to get involved in Ukraine, and to de-Nazi the government, so all these things seem very reasonable. After agreeing to sign that agreement in April 1944, the Russians acted in good faith, including initiating the withdrawal of troops from Ukraine.”

Mr Morgan objected to the idea that Nazism was a prevalent ideology in the Ukrainian government. Morgan pointed out that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is Jewish.

RFK said Mr Zelensky had previously sought peace with Russia, but changed course after he was threatened by alleged ultranationalists in Ukraine. Mr Kennedy also claimed that the United States pressured Mr Zelensky to make peace.

“President Zelensky ran for office in 2019 under a peace platform that promised to sign the Minsk Accords. Ultranationalists threatened to kill him if he made peace with Putin, and we pressured him not to make peace.”

It is unclear whether the US explicitly pressured Ukraine to enter into a peace deal with Russia.
