Flagstaff – Fatal Single Vehicle Collision

On July 10, 2023 at approximately 8:24 PM, Flagstaff Police responded to a one-vehicle accident at Block 2500 of E. Industrial Drive. When officers arrived, they found an old model BMW resting on the driver’s side of the north parking lot of the Flagstaff City Aquaplex parking lot at 1702 North Fourth Street, with three men surrounding it. I found him seriously injured.

Witnesses and police administered first aid to the three until medical staff and firefighters arrived. One man was transported from the scene to Flagstaff Medical Center to continue emergency medical care. Two other men were confirmed dead at the scene. They have been identified as Kyle Ashley, 45, of Flagstaff and Chad Thompson, 29, of Lupe. As part of the investigation, members of the Criminal Investigation Unit and Crash Reconstruction Team were called to the scene. E. Industrial Drive and the City of Flagstaff Aquaplex parking lot were closed for approximately three and a half hours while investigators gathered evidence.

Preliminary indications indicate that the vehicle deviated from the roadway while traveling west on E. Industrial Drive, drove through landscaping bushes and trees, and ended up on a parking structure at the north end of the Aquaplex parking lot. It is believed that it collided with a steel support beam. Stopped.

This investigation is currently underway to develop further details and factors into the cause of this vehicle accident.
