Drought conditions are improving in Arizona | News

Tucson (KVOA) – It takes years to recover from drought. Tucson is looking to recover from a lack of monsoons in 2020, even after nearly breaking records in 2021 and above average in 2022.

Tucson finally started seeing relief when parts of Pima County were removed from the drought designation earlier last month.

“It’s going to take a while to get out of this drought. Even this rain event over the next few days won’t make it all the way out, but it’s slowly fading away. So far, we’ve had a great winter. It’s raining,” said 4Warn meteorologist Shea Sorenson.

Tucson is expecting more rain over the next week, which could lift more areas from drought conditions.

“Therefore, heavy rains in the valleys and snow in the mountains are expected, with even more heavy rains Monday through Tuesday,” she added.

California is also excluded from the wet, high drought category, but it rained so quickly that the ground didn’t absorb all of it, and the water ran off and didn’t help the water… problems in that state.

For Tucson, the rain has eased and spread over time. At this rate, Tucson could see at least a slight recovery in the water table.
