Flat Fire caused by individual burning grass trimmings

coconino county news – Flat Fire is located 7.5 miles west of Route 89, north of San Francisco Peaks (GPS: 35 degrees 28 minutes 04.0 seconds north latitude 111 degrees 39 minutes 16.3 seconds west longitude) began on Monday, July 10 and was caused by individuals burning grass clippings.

The fire, which is now estimated to be 32% extinguished on 156 acres, started when civilians burned grass clippings on the crematory, but the wind drove it out of control and spread rapidly.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office arrested a person and charged him with reckless arson and violating the county’s fire ban.

Current personnel assigned to the fire include 1 hotshot operator, 1 handstaff, 1 engine, 1 bulldozer, and 1 water tanker.

Fire is experiencing minimal movement through grass and pinion juniper.

The crew spent a week building containment lines to the east and west of the fire, securing those lines and monitoring the fire’s movements.
