On July 8, a California gardener was reportedly seriously injured after unintentionally picking up what appeared to be fireworks.
Hector Majoral picked up an object apparently resembling a golf ball while working in Torrance. according to KTLA. Majoral had intended to throw the ball away, but instead a ball-like object exploded, amputating most of his left hand and burning his face, the newspaper said.
“There were fingers on the road and a lot of meat,” said Ken Lucas, who heard the explosion from across the street.
Lucas said he hurriedly “grabbed the strap” from the garage before being run over and “bandaged”.[ing] He wrapped it around the gardener’s arm in a “grisly” spectacle.

Paramedics, police and a bomb squad eventually arrived on the scene.Explosives were likely unexploded 4th of July fireworks, FOX 11 Los Angeles report.
The newspaper said Majoral had lost the sight in his right eye and had lacerations all over his body. (Related: Suspected gas explosion in Paris, multiple injured, critical condition)
According to FOX 11 Los Angeles, the gardener is reportedly facing a long road to recovery, which could include eye surgery and a hand prosthesis.
KTLA reported that Hector’s brother Ernesto Majoral said his daughter was distraught because his uncle no longer played with him.
