NAU Set To Demolish Buildings At Route 66 And Milton Road Intersection In Flagstaff – KAFF News – Flagstaff

Northern Arizona University decided to demolish two connected buildings it owns on Route 66 and Milton Road after hearing community input about the property. The building once housed the Old Mandarin Super Buffet, Super Pawn and, before Super Pawn, the Mulligan Sports Bar and more. NAU bought the property in 2018, along with the longtime home of Granny’s Closet, but hasn’t done anything since. The former Super Pawn and restaurant site will be temporarily converted into a parking lot, officials said, with future plans to be discussed in conjunction with NAU’s campus masterplan. Flagstaff Mayor Becky Daggett said, “The demolition of these facilities demonstrates our intention to pursue strong regional partnerships, community beautification efforts and the University’s Master Plan efforts, and we remain optimistic about the future. I will let you,” he said. She added, “I encourage residents to join NAU’s plans and help shape the Flagstaff campus for the next decade.” “I asked the NAU and Flagstaff community to tell me stories about this place,” said NAU president Jose Luis Cruz Rivera. “This has evoked meaningful memories from many. The first kiss with my future husband. The story of family dinners spanning decades, from Gables to the Buffet. Students playing with friends at Mulligan’s. Fire Department.” rescued a 6-year-old patron who was trapped in a bathroom for some reason, and others were able to monetize their belongings at a supermarket pawnshop in times of trouble to have a better day.” The use of the site will be determined in the Campus Master Plan. NAU has confirmed that under no circumstances will the property be used for student housing projects, based on the progress of the planning and prior engagement with the Flagstaff community. NAU invites the community to participate in the master plan. An open house will be held on July 26th from 6-8pm at the Murdoch Center at 203 East Brannen Avenue in Flagstaff. Those interested can stop by during that time to ask questions of those involved in the event. Demolition of the building will begin the week of August 11.
