Excessive heat and thunderstorms again this afternoon. Heat will have the greatest impact on all of southeastern Arizona, but thunderstorms will bring damaging winds, dust, lightning, and heavy rain.
The extreme heat warning has been extended until 10 p.m. Friday as temperatures in southeastern Arizona range from 102 to 113 degrees. The alert includes all of Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties, but not the Isles of Skye. Drink plenty of water, check before you lock your door, and remember to limit your time outdoors to between 10am and 8pm.
Extreme heat will have the biggest impact this week, but southeastern Arizona will also be affected by thunderstorms every day this week. We’ve had a very active afternoon here in Tucson, but the afternoon will take some time before the storm hits. By mid-afternoon, storms will begin to develop, especially south and east of Tucson. Isolated strong to severe storms are still possible today, with the main threats being wind damage, blown dust and heavy localized rainfall. Watch out for rainstorms!
- Today: Few PM storms (20%). High: 110°
- Tonight: A bit of a storm tonight, then partly cloudy (30%). Low: 83°
- Tomorrow: Scattered PM storms (40%). Height: 111°
