A security guard was killed and another wounded in a shooting inside a Portland hospital on Saturday, officials said.
A gunman opened fire at 11 a.m. Saturday at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital, killing security guard Bobby Smallwood, CBS News reported. report. Smallwood was rushed to a trauma center but eventually died of his injuries later that day, the paper said.

After the shooting, first responders sealed the hospital and began searching for the suspected shooter. The suspect was later detained by authorities about 25 miles from the hospital. During the traffic stop, three law enforcement officers opened fire on the suspect, who died at the scene. according to Release from the Portland Police Department (PPB). “By Bureau policy, the identities of the Bureau members involved will be released within 15 days unless there is a credible security threat. No other police agency has been involved in the use of lethal force,” the PPB said in a statement.
“In addition to the East County Serious Crimes Investigation, as part of the Use of Force Review process, the Department will conduct an internal review of the entire incident, including the initial response, resources requested, tactics used, and actions taken after the shooting,” the statement continued.
In addition to Smallwood, a hospital staff member was injured in the alleged shooting, but was reported to be in a stable condition, according to CBS News.
