43 dogs seized during animal hoarding investigation

The Mojave County Sheriff’s Office said a total of 43 dogs were found on the Dolan Springs area property occupied by Betty Fuxell.

Mojave County, Arizona – Dozens of dogs from an “animal hoarding” situation in Mojave County after they were found in two homes whose floors were “covered” with garbage and animal waste, officials say was confiscated.

Mojave County Sheriff’s Office Betty Lynne Fuchsel, 77, was arrested on January 11.

A total of 43 dogs were found on the Dolan Springs neighborhood property occupied by Huxel, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Huksel was initially arrested on a warrant for failing to appear.

“Over the past few years, Huksel has received several subpoenas related to violations but has not complied or appeared in court,” the sheriff’s office said.

After Huksel’s arrest, investigators obtained search warrants for the two properties she occupied, officials said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the two facilities were the subject of “continuous complaints of animal hoarding.”

One of the properties was on Garnet Drive and the other was on Kathleen Drive.

The sheriff’s office said, “Upon entering two residences, we discovered that the floors were covered in feces, garbage and urine.

During the search, investigators found 43 dogs in the two homes or on the surrounding property, officials said.

“Several dogs were found trapped inside the residence and in vehicles on the property and were not given food or water,” the sheriff’s office said.

The animal was “found to be emaciated and neglected in various stages,” according to the sheriff’s office. Several needed urgent medical attention, according to the sheriff’s office.

The dog was taken to the Mojave County Animal Shelter.

Huxel has been charged with 43 counts of felony animal cruelty.
