Southern MN Child Critically Hurt in Crash at Rural Intersection

MANKATO, Minnesota (KROC-AM News) – A young child was airlifted to Rochester after two vehicles collided near Mankato.

state patrol says Kellen Alma, 6 years old was a passenger in an SUV driven by 42 year old Rebecca Alma I was hit by a pickup truck at an intersection just southwest of Mankato in Janesville. She said she had no injuries, but her child was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with her life-threatening injuries, according to state patrol.

The collision was reported at about 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Blue Earth County Routes 90 and 33 near Mount Kato. This intersection is controlled by a stop sign on County Route 33. The state patrol said the SUV was driving north on County Route 33. The pickup was heading west on County 90.

Pickup driver identified Austin Smith, 24, of Mankato. Neither driver was injured, state patrol officials said.
