PHOENIX, Arizona – Today, the U.S. Attorney’s Office released immigration enforcement statistics for April 1, 2023 through June 30, 2023. These cases are being prosecuted in cooperation with the U.S. Border Patrol’s Tucson and Yuma divisions at Customs and Border Protection. , homeland security investigations, and assistance from other federal, state, and county agencies. For the three months to June 30, 2023, the United States has filed criminal charges against 1,552 people in Arizona who illegally entered or re-entered the United States. As part of its ongoing effort to curb illegal immigration, the United States has also filed 275 lawsuits against individuals responsible for smuggling illegal immigrants into Arizona and into Arizona. During this period, the United States also prosecuted 90 reactive drug cases at immigration ports of entry and checkpoints.
Reducing migrant smuggling and mitigating the risk to communities affected by these crimes remains a priority for the agency and its law enforcement partners. Some of these prosecutions are against leaders and coordinators of foreign smuggling rings. Other prosecutions are aimed at stopping young drivers, who are often recruited through social media platforms, from engaging in this dangerous practice. Prosecutions against young drivers include three lawsuits filed against juvenile smugglers during this period.
These statistics represent US Attorney’s Office indictments only. This number does not include individuals arrested by immigration officials and subject only to administrative proceedings.
